Illinois Trial Law Firm DeBlasio & Gower Investigating Claims Against Corn Seed Giant Syngenta.

The Chicago area trial law firm of DeBlasio & Gower LLC is investigating claims that farmers may have against Syngenta, the largest agricultural chemical company in the world.   Syngenta, a Swiss company with annual revenues of about $15 billion, sold its Agrisure Viptera seeds to farmers before they were approved for import into China.   When China stopped corn imports from the U.S. in 2013, the effect on the U.S. farming industry was devastating, causing estimated losses in the billions of dollars.  Syngenta’s sale of Agrisure Duracade is also at issue.

In 2011, Syngenta began selling its genetically modified Agrisure Viptera® MR162 corn seed to U.S. farmers.  The problem is that this genetically modified organism (GMO) was being sold to U.S. farmers before it was approved for distribution to China, one of the largest markets for importing corn from the U.S.   Corn prices went into a downward spiral in November 2013 when China banned all imports of corn containing even traces of Viptera MR162.  The devastating impact of this action was felt not only by farmers that used Viptera corn seed, but also any person involved in the production, transportation or trade of corn in the U.S.
